BTAQ Consulting was founded by John Matus, a highly experienced former Federal Agent who trained and operated internationally in the field of Behavioural Detection. He developed and managed behavioural detection training for the Australian Federal Police, and worked extensively in the field, training and operationally implementing behavioural detection techniques. John's drive for continuously improving Behavioural Detection capabilities led him to form BTAQ Consulting, developing specialised Behavioural Detection and Questioning courses which have successfully been used by a diverse range of clients throughout Australia and New Zealand.

Peter Bond - Security Consultant & Senior Trainer

Peter Bond has 34 years experience as an operational AFP officer. He possesses a wealth of experience gained investigating major organised crime including secondments to Federal / State Police Task Forces and the National Crime Authority. 

Whilst based in Islamabad, Pakistan with responsibility for Afghanistan, Peter was a member of the joint AFP / FBI / UK Met Police Improvised Explosive Device (IED) Team supporting Pakistani Police with forensic post blast explosives analysis and capacity development. Peter completed human behaviour detection training whilst deployed to Pakistan. Major terrorist investigations included the Sri Lankan Cricket Team attack and the Marriott Hotel bombing. In 2005, he was awarded the AFP Operations Medal in relation to Operation Alliance – the 2002 Bali Bombings investigation.

In 2009, Peter was one of the first foreign police responders to the Mumbai, India Terrorist attacks, recovering deceased victims and providing investigative support to the Indian Police. Subsequently, Peter was invited along with his Metropolitan Police counterpart to deliver a terrorism briefing at Europol HQ, The Hague. 

Peter returned to the Solomon Islands where he was appointed Commander (Operations). This was followed by his appointment as the Australian Police Commander to the UN Peacekeeping Mission in Cyprus where his negotiation skills were utilised to de-escalate tensions between Greek and Turkish Cypriots. In 2018, Peter was awarded the International Law Enforcement Cooperation Medal. Peter holds a Bachelor of Education and Teaching Diploma which complement his operational experience in training delivery.     

Bruno Corica - Security Consultant & Senior Trainer

Bruno Corica is an experienced professional in the fields of Behavioural Detection, Personal Security and Protective Skills. He holds internationally recognised Instructor Certifications in various systems of combative skills, firearms and defensive tactics including SPEAR System/Personal Defence Readiness, ASP, Monadnock).  

He has worked as a federal law enforcement officer, trainer and educator with several Australian Federal Government agencies. Bruno has significant experience in the field of Behavioural Detection, leading behavioural detection deployments at many significant events in Australia. 

He has provided technical assistance and advice to various policing, correctional, and other governmental agencies regarding Use of Force training. He has previously attended the Victoria Police Operational Safety and Tactics Training Unit Symposium as a guest presenter. 

He is a member of the International Law Enforcement Educators and Trainers Association (ILEETA), the International Association of Law Enforcement Firearms Instructors (IALEFI), ASIS International and ASIAL.

He holds a Diploma of Security and Risk Management and Certificate IV in Correctional Practice. 

He is currently working as a consultant, training and educating professionals in the fields of Behavioural Detection, Personal Security and Protective Skills, Occupational Violence Prevention and Crisis Communication.
